Columbus Eyed for Biodiesel Plant
By Boris Ladwig
April 04, 2007
A $2 million biodiesel plant that produces the fuel from waste cooking oil has been proposed for Columbus by an Orlando, Fla. –based developer.
The 5,000-square-foot plant would employ 10 and annually would produce 5 million gallons of biodiesel.
Dave Jarrett, chief communication officer of Xenerga, said the company has found some interested parties in Columbus but has not finalized a location.
Xenerga would train the staff, deliver the waste cooking oil through long-term deals with suppliers and provide an initial buyer. The company hopes to have the plant in operation by the end of the year.
Xenerga has launched more than 130 such projects world-wide and plans to open its first U.S. plant this month in Orlando, Jarrett said. It is targeting 40 U.S. markets, including Columbus and Terre Haute.
The plants sell B100 to wholesalers who sell it to blenders who turn the products into blends such as B5 or B20.
Xenerga officials have been involved with biodiesel since 1998, but the company was founded last year, Jarrett said. The company employs 22.
